Building a Next-Gen Festival Experience from Design to Development
As the developer behind metafest.wtf, I am thrilled to share my experience of bringing Trolleo's amazing design to life using cutting-edge web technologies.
Our goal was to create a seamless online experience for users to discover, buy tickets, and attend MetaFam's first-ever in-person conference and festival. The result is a visually stunning and highly functional website built on a modern technology stack that serves as the ultimate digital gateway to the MetaFest event in August 2023.
The Tech Stack
To deliver a fast, interactive, and visually rich experience, we chose a combination of the latest, greatest & battle hardened tech available:
- AstroJS: A lightning-fast static site builder that enables us to optimise performance while delivering a modern, component-based architecture.
- Fleek: Enables us to host the website on the decentralised web - Permissionless, trustless, censorship resistant, and free of centralised gatekeepers.
- HTML5: The latest standard for structuring content and delivering rich multimedia experiences.
- TypeScript: A super-set of JavaScript that adds static types, enhancing code quality and maintainability.
- TailwindCSS: A utility-first CSS framework for rapid, responsive design and styling.
- Framer Motion: A modern JavaScript library for managing state and interactions in the UI.
All these technologies come together to transform Trolleo's design into a responsive, interactive, and high-performance website.
Ticket Sales
Ticket sales have been added to the site in readiness for the public announcement of MetaFest. All application forms feature Tally forms integration with FIAT payments being handled by Stripe and cryptocurrency payments enabled by new payment partners, the awesome PayCek.
Hosting on Fleek
To ensure the best performance and security, we opted to host metafest.wtf on Fleek, a decentralized platform for hosting websites on the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). Fleek offers awesome loading times, resilience, trustlessness, and censorship-resistance benefits and makes Continuous Integration with Github very easy to set up. All of their products are built on the underlying protocols that power the new Open Web (Internet Computer, IPFS, Textile, Filecoin. Ethereum).
Ongoing Development
While the website has just gone out of beta with the addition of ticket sales but as the festival gets closer, we will be working on enabling live scheduling and streaming during the event. We are excited to see metafest.wtf evolve and grow alongside the festival itself.
Working with MetaFam
It's been an absolute pleasure collaborating with the MetaFam team, who are deeply involved in organizing their first IRL conference and festival. Their vision and enthusiasm are truly inspiring, making the development process a genuinely enjoyable experience. I can't wait to go and meet the fam in August.

We are excited to continue refining and expanding the site as we approach the event in August 2023.
